Dec 2016. This newsletter summarizes new features and improvements in the Interdisciplinary Earth Data Alliance (IEDA) systems. Click on the links below for more detailed information.

- Dr. Stephen Richard joined IEDA in July as its new Associate Director for Technology and Architecture. In his new role, he will provide leadership and innovation for IEDA's technical operation and development. Richard comes to us from the Arizona Geological Survey, where he most recently served as chief of the Geoinformatics division.
Tools and Services
- PetDB v.2.8.8 was released. New features include improved display of search criteria. For more information, see the PetDB Release Notes Page.
- GeoMapApp v3.6.2 was released. Imported tabular data can now be edited in real-time and an expanded range of color palettes for displaying gridded and tabular data was added. The Save Session function has been significantly enhanced. The ability for users to import their own MGD77T tab-separated files in the Underway Bathymetry, Gravity and Magnetics Anomalies portal is now available. Other modifications and bug fixes requested by the community were also made. More Info.
- GMRT v3.2 was released with new swath bathymetry data from an additional 28 cruises conducted in the Southern Ocean (6 cruises), Atlantic Ocean (14 cruises), Indian Ocean (1 cruise), and Pacific Ocean (12 cruises). Learn more about this release here.
- SESAR v.6.4 was released. New features include the ability to contact the owner of sample, a new sample metadata update web service that allows programmatic updates of sample metadata in bulk, and the ability to assign permissions to others to view, edit, and/or register sample metadata on your behalf. - Dr. Jim Bowring of the Cyber Infrastructure and Development Lab for the Earth Sciences (College of Charleston) has developed a JAVA library to interact with SESAR web services. You can download the latest release and API documentation here.
- New contributed data sets now available through the Marine-Geo Digital Library include sea bottom pressure data (Fox, JdF:Axial_Deformation) and temperature probe data (Chadwick, TN327) at Juan de Fuca Axial Seamount, high-resolution Sentry AUV bathymetry, backscatter, MAPR and CTD data for the Marianas back-arc (Resing, FK151121) and the Mid-Atlantic Ridge at 16.5N (Smith, KN210-05), and fluid flow data for hydrothermal vent sites in the Lau, Juan de Fuca and EPR spreading centers (Germanovich, HeatFlow_Germanovich). Bathymetry and backscatter data were contributed for the EPR spreading center at 17-18S (Haymon, SOJN02MV) and for hydrothermal vent fields at EPR 9N (Voigt, AT11-03), the Mid-Atlantic Ridge Rainbow field (Canales, MGL1305) and the NE Lau Basin (Kwasnitschka, FK160320). Other contributed data sets include crustal thickness and gravity anomaly data for Pacific, Indian and Atlantic Ocean transform faults (Gregg, Gravity_Gregg2007) and Sentry AUV magnetic field and CTD data from the western Pacific Jurassic Quiet Zone (Tominaga, SKQ201402S). For the Academic Seismic Portal, multi-channel seismic reflection data sets were added for the Blake Ridge (Holbrook, EW0008), Wharton Basin-Mentawai Gap (Singh, FK150523) and Santorini (Hooft, MGL1521). High-resolution shallow 2-D seismic data sets were registered for the California San Onofre offshore “SONGS” area (Driscoll/Kent, MV1316, NH1320), and full 2ms-resolution 3-D seismic reflection data was registered for the Nankai Trough (Bangs, EW9907, EW9908). Single-channel seismic reflection and navigation data sets were added for more than 400 Eltanin, Conrad and Vema cruises from the 1960s-1980s, also accessible through GeoMapApp. Read more. Data sets recently registered in the Antarctic and Southern Ocean Data Portal were acquired near the Antarctic Peninsula (Halanych - LMG0414, LMG1505, LMG1505B; Smith - LMG1510; Sherrell - LMG1601; Ball-LMG1602; Christensen-NBP1601; Lamanna-NBP1602), in the Amundsen and Ross Seas (air-sea flux data: Halanych - NBP1210), on the Wilkes Land shelf (air-sea flux data: Leventer - NBP1402), the Argentine Basin (Kelly, NBP1510, NBP1511), and southern Mid-Atlantic Ridge (St. Laurent, NBP1508). - New contributed data now available through the EarthChem Library (ECL) includes organic carbon data for the Aleutian (Blair & Childress, 2016a), Hikurangi (Blair & Childress, 2016b), and Cascadia (Blair & Childress, 2016c) subduction margins, XRF geochemistry of lavas sampled by the Hawaiian Scientific Drilling Program (HSDP; Rhodes et al., 2016a), XRF geochemistry of submarine lavas from Mauna Loa Volcano (Rhodes et al., 2016b), major and trace element and Pb-Sr-Nd-Hf isotope data from the Aleutian plutons (Cai et al., 2016), Zircon U-Pb geochronology of volcanic and plutonic activity near the California Rift (Kimbrough et al., 2016), helium and carbon isotopic measurements from 2005-2006 basalts from the East Pacific Rise (Graham et al., 2016), major, trace and isotopic measurements of ancient gypsic soils from the Atacama Desert (Cosentino et al., 2016a; Cosentino et al., 2016b), plagioclase and amphibole data from the Hicks Butte Inlier in the central Cascades (MacDonald et al., 2016a, MacDonald et al., 2016b), electron microprobe data from Apollo 14 low-Ti green glass samples (Delano et al., 2016), trace element and isotope geochemistry from the Galapagos Spreading Center (Lundstrom, 2016), major, trace, and rare earth element geochemistry from IODP Expedition 329 to the South Pacific Gyre (Dunlea et al., 2016a; Dunlea et al., 2016b; Dunlea et al., 2016c; Dunlea et al., 2016d), major, trace, and rare earth element analyses of sediments from DSDP Leg 6 and ODP Leg 185 (Scudder et al., 2016), geochemistry of peridotitic sulfides from the St. Elena Ophiolite (Bizimis and Holm, 2016), volcanic gas plume data from Turrialba Volcano (de Moor et al., 2016), Sm/Nd ratios and Nd and Sm isotope compositions of meteoritic and terrestrial sample (Burkhardt et al., 2016), and major and trace element geochemistry of Japan Trench sediments (IODP Expedition 343 and DSDP Leg 56; Rabinowitz et al., 2016)
