Interdisciplinary Earth Data Alliance

DEIAJ

Our vision of the ‘Next Generation Data Infrastructure’ entails goals for essential social and cultural progress that will amplify scientific and societal impact of IEDA2.

We are increasing our efforts in educating and engaging the ‘Next Generation’ of early career scientists and students, particularly those from historically excluded groups, to grow a more diverse and inclusive STEM workforce and to advance Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility, and Justice (DEIAJ).

IEDA2 is putting forward a joint education program of The City College of New York, South Dakota Mines, SERC, and Lamont that is designed to empower members of historically excluded communities while benefiting education in the broader Geosciences. We will pursue two objectives:

  • Engage educators, who have the most contact with students in minoritized communities to develop Open Educational Resources that can be used across the entire Geosciences
  • Intentionally include Black, Latinx, and American Indian students in hands-on training experiences that will expand their technical and analytical skills, and support their growth in the discipline not as a remedial activity but as one that gives them a competitive edge
